Not so Terrible Teens

I live in Ilford North and I am constantly aware of the growing number of teenagers on the streets hanging around in gangs. I am sure that this is because teenagers are bored and have nowhere to go to socialise with their friends.

I believe that if there were more places for teenagers to meet up such as community   centres, youth centres, youth clubs or even an underage night club/disco for 13-17 year olds, possibly once a week, this would go part way to solving the problem.

I have nieces who live in Canvey Island where there is such a youth night club, it sells soft drinks and they have a chance to have a good time with friends. I know for a fact that this does have a positive effect, because the knife crime rate is lower in Canvey Island. Anything that can prevent teenagers being out in gangs on the streets, possibly drinking alcohol or  taking drugs, must be worth trying.

More Resources for the Young

Young people would like to see more resources open to the younger generation and the present ones open for longer periods. More money needs to be allocated to young people to improve what we already have, provide all staff with the training they need. By this we can demonstrate a commitment to young people that all councils like Redbridge should have.

I know Labour party representatives have asked for more for the young, as they recognise the young in the borough are our future.

What is the '@' sign called?
Officially, this symbol is called 'commercial at'. Unofficially, most people seem to refer to it as the 'at sign' or just 'at'. Recently, there has also been a movement to call it the atmark. There are also numerous nicknames for it, including snail, curl, strudel, whorl, and whirlpool.
